Recycling has become one of many ways for people to "go green."

With gas prices at an all time high, energy efficiency has become a hot topic among politicians and civilians alike.

Going green has become a way of life for many Americans and has been a marketing tool for a variety of different brands and businesses.

"Green Power" is an especially hot topic as it has the capabilities to save Americans big bucks while reducing the burning of fossil fuels.

In the past 10 years the amount of "green power" products has increased dramatically, with over 50 percent of Americans having the opportunity to purchase "green appliances".

One of the most famous makers of "green" appliances may be EnergyStar, which claims to not only be a more energy efficient source of appliances, but to also save hundreds of dollars in bills every year.

Although "green" appliances can sometimes be significantly more expensive than their less environmentally conscious counterparts, the amount of money saved in bill pay often more than makes up for the difference in cost.

Buying energy efficient products helps aid the country maintain national energy security while also saving money.

"I recently bought my very first washer and I chose to get an EnergyStar appliance, Traci Nichols said.

"It cost a little more than some of the others that I looked at but I feel like I'm helping the environment," she added.

Besides buying appliances, purchasing a hybrid car has also become a popular way to become more energy efficient.

In car dealerships across the state hybrid cars have waiting lists a mile long with consumers desperate to cut down their gas costs.

If buying a new car isn't in your future, simply walking or riding a bike when possible is a huge way to cut down on those plump pump costs while aiding in the country's surge to becoming a more energy efficient nation.
