Phoenix Design Week brought people from the local design community together to promote their art, their companies and themselves. It all started with a letter from Mark Dudlik to the Phoenix design community. "In February, I wrote an open letter. It took me a month of editing and considering it, and I finally released it in March," Dudlik said.
It is that time of year again, to get together with family, watch football games and of course, eat a big meal. A common way of celebrating Thanksgiving is with delicious turkey and more food dishes to extend stomachs. As always, Thanksgiving cannot pass without the thought of pumpkin pie.
This upcoming holiday season is the time when students wrack their brains for gift ideas. There are many new and updated options to choose from that will be within any size budget this year. Electronics are this year's hottest gifts again with the next generation of video game systems, cameras and music players.
World Food Day is celebrated every year on Oct. 16 to increase awareness and bring attention to the ongoing fight to alleviate hunger. MCC participated by hosting an "Empty Bowls" event at its Red Mountain campus on Oct. 20. Attendees were able to browse through hundreds of bowls created by MCC faculty and students.
The music, the atmosphere, and the energy were contagious. It seemed there wasn't one person that did not enjoy it from the time it started. MCC's Fashion Focus Club helped sponsor Nobody's Perfect, a Project Dream event, put on the 2009 Shining Stars fashion show.
For the first time in MCC's history, the Athletics department has formed a booster club. The club is the brainchild of MCC's Athletic Director, Jeff Fore and Assistant Athletic Director, Todd Bolser. "We've never had one before, and the idea is to get word out that kids are in need of school money to compete with the big dogs in-state," Bolser said.
Thanksgiving was once the day that kicked off the holiday season, but now it seems that Black Friday has stolen the title. Instead of prepping Thanksgiving dinner for days to come, it is not uncommon for families to camp outside of their favorite stores for days to recieve bargains.
