The new men's basketball program at MCC anticipates an exciting season with all new staff and an almost completely new team. "We want to restore MCC's tradition of academic and athletic excellence," Sam Ballard, the new men's head coach said, adding that in recent years it's been one or the other.
It is back to the court for the reigning Region I Women's Basketball team at MCC. Head Coach Kori Stephenson has her group practicing hard for this season; many of the players have actually been working together since June. "The team learned a lot last season about what it takes to get to the National Tournament, and the level of play required to become a champion. There was a lot of bonding and overall it was just a lot of fun and a great experience for the kids," Stephenson said.
Tishin Donkersley is the professor of the sports psychology class at MCC. She has a backround in clinical psychology with an emphasis in sports and a master's degree in that field. Q: So what is sports psychology? A: "Sports psychology is a compilation of research based methods and theories, utilized to understand and process the cognitive ability of the athlete, in order to apply the methods and theories to maximize the athletes peak performance and potential.
MCC's football team's record should say 4-0, but it doesn't. After winning the Valley of the Sun Bowl last season prior to the start of this season, MCC was ranked 21st in the country by the NJCAA. Even after sending 17 of our players on to various Division I and Division II schools to play football, MCC still maintained the ability and power to have a repeat appearance in Valley of the Sun Bowl.
